New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: How do you grow OSS projects?

Ask HN: How do you grow OSS projects? 2 by tarasyarema | 3 comments on Hacker News. Hey there, founder of a startup here which main product is an oss project. We've been trying to grow the project for months, and it's lowkey growing in stars and adoption. But it's linear. We see other projects do big jumps and hit thousands of stars in days. Going viral in HN, X, etc. We believe that real adoption might not come from one day to another, and the teams using us are happy and want to use us more. Now, I hate to spam in places like hn or other forums, but what strategies have you found working? Specially in the realm of AI. Obviously if you ask ai, it's always: launch in HN, PH, etc, etc. We post a lot on x, linkedin and such, but would love to push the adoption curve up. Any help welcome! Cheers, Won't spam my project here, if you want to check it it's on gh -> desplega-ai/agent-swarm

Ask HN: How fast is your CI these days? 3 by easterncalculus | 1 comments on Hacker News. With the age of agents CI costs are generally going up, how is your build setup handling things? Have you been able to optimize, and how did you? Most importantly, how fast is it?

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Mined crypto on Azure when I was 13, after 12y still cannot open account

Ask HN: Mined crypto on Azure when I was 13, after 12y still cannot open account 2 by realaccfromPL | 0 comments on Hacker News. Hey all, I have a very stupid confession, back when DOGE was first introduced, I didn't think much of it and followed a bunch of tutorials on how to mine it on free (and much less limited) Azure account. I used up all of the credits and didn't think much of it... Now, I am infra engineer with about 5 years of experience, I have multiple Azure certs, I use it everyday at work but I still cannot get MSFT to unlock my personal account or allow me to create a new one, citing fraud. At the beginning of my career I even got to be a part of the terrible Azure technical customer service and internal requests to lift it off of me didn't help. Please advice is there any way to get to be a legitimate user of service again. Thank you.

New ask Hacker News story: I'm creating my own OS, check it out, LimonOs no Unix no Linux

I'm creating my own OS, check it out, LimonOs no Unix no Linux 3 by Drfoxi | 0 comments on Hacker News. So, I've created my own OS called LimonOS. It is currently in the early stages of development. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is neither Linux nor Unix—in short, the kernel is unique and 98% written in C. Yes, I used an AI assistant for help because I had a headache and encountered many errors and problems since I was working on it and thinking through it alone. Development has been ongoing for 4 days. Here is the link to the OS itself—we recently added a browser and internet connection: https://ift.tt/2nt8bUQ The code and the entire OS system are there. There is a catch: if you are on Windows, you need to click on the batch file, and everything will compile using WSL Linux and Limine for implementation. Everything is on GitHub, including all instructions, and it will probably be easiest for you to check it out in a virtual machine. I'm writing this because I ...

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Can we do something about this impending AI dystopia

Ask HN: Can we do something about this impending AI dystopia 4 by justforfunhere | 3 comments on Hacker News. There have been, increasingly, a large number of posts [1] on HN in the past few weeks, where developers are slowly coming to terms with the breakneck speed with which Agentic Coding has advanced in the past few months. We all agree that an average software developer today is closely resembling the horse-carriage just when automobiles were becoming mainstream around 120 years ago. And coming to HN daily and finding at least one such lament from a software engineer is becoming quite tiresome. We are all, mostly, rational thinkers and worship logic and reasoning even more than our respective gods. With the context built-up enough, I would like to challenge the community to come up with ways to counter this death march that we find ourselves on. We are now, with every passing day, becoming more and more dependent on Agentic Coding. This is bringing the inevitable end to our pro...

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Are tab completion models dead?

Ask HN: Are tab completion models dead? 2 by sandruso | 0 comments on Hacker News. I think there is still place for this type of coding where you autocomplete predictable chunks and review it as you go. But I haven't seen much development in this space. Are there any notable models optimized for this task or full/semi-autonomous coding has taken over?

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Are people aware OpenAI Dots intercept SSL?

Ask HN: Are people aware OpenAI Dots intercept SSL? 2 by Benjamin_Dobell | 1 comments on Hacker News. I've already cancelled my OpenAI subscription due to all their recent shenanigans. But before my month ends I thought I'd see what this Dot thing is all about. First thing I did was install Firefox to test out a project of mine (wouldn't work in Chrome). It failed to connect: > The cloud proxy uses an OpenAI certificate authority that the operating system already trusts, but the fresh Firefox profile doesn’t. The game’s connection verifies successfully against that existing authority. > May I add that same cloud certificate authority to this isolated Firefox test profile? Certificate validation stays enabled, but Firefox would then trust certificates issued by the cloud proxy. Wait. What? No. Of course not. Aren't Dots ostensibly designed for personal use? Accessing your email and the like. With this thing intercepting web traffic, I imagine almost everyone...

New ask Hacker News story: Auto-exist – Flow-state induction via raw mouse input (a biohacking experiment)

Auto-exist – Flow-state induction via raw mouse input (a biohacking experiment) 2 by rejabusafint | 0 comments on Hacker News. I spent a lot of time analyzing motor execution, hand tension, and focus degradation during continuous mouse work and gaming. I realized that conscious micro-adjustments cause fatigue and pull you out of focus. To solve this, I developed a technique called "auto-exist" to minimize conscious intervention during mouse usage. I built Intend System to test whether pointer movement could become completely subconscious right from the start. It worked—the core click task is driven by the subconscious from the very beginning, making the movement feel mostly automated. The best part is that you feel the game is being auto-played by the app, effortlessly locking you into a deep flow-state. (For those unfamiliar: Flow-state is a mental zone of peak focus where overthinking stops, reactions become effortless reflexes, and complex actions no longer drain your m...

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: How do people self host email and maintain deliverability?

Ask HN: How do people self host email and maintain deliverability? 3 by smithbob | 3 comments on Hacker News. I wanted to self host my email and decided to rent a VPS. I made sure the ipv4 address was on no blacklist. My domain uses a good TLD with a long domain history. I set up SPF, DKIM, DMARC, reverse IP DNS, etc. I sent 3 emails to my personal outlook/hotmail accounts, all of which went to spam. 1 day later, my IP was banned. Outlook support said they cannot discuss the reason for the ban and will not unban it so I'm out of luck. I know I can just pay a provider $5/month and get email, but there is something about having full control over your own email. Is there anything much I can do?

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: What router will remain secure during the vulnpocalypse?

Ask HN: What router will remain secure during the vulnpocalypse? 4 by nonfunctional | 2 comments on Hacker News. Hi, Curious about what kind of router I should get to be safe with all the vulnerabilities being discovered. I'm thinking something running OpenWRT makes sense, since that's open source and likely to receive updates quickly going forward. Does anyone have any recommendations?

New ask Hacker News story: Tell HN: Claude CLI doesn't exit anymore, not even with CTRL-C

Tell HN: Claude CLI doesn't exit anymore, not even with CTRL-C 5 by cromka | 0 comments on Hacker News. So I found myself surprised today that exiting the CLI with CTRL-C does not, in fact, close Claude CLI. What it does is it closes the agent's terminal interface, but it leaves a background process active, even if you didn't work on anything at all. Try it yourself: run claude, exit to main conversations list, close it immediately with CTRL-C or /exit, then `ps ax|grep claude`. Apparently it's not a bug, it's a "feature", introduced earlier this year. You need to disable Agent View (https://ift.tt/S2sCdQn, disableAgentView in settings.json) to stop that behavior. But then you lose the ability to open the list all your chats in main view, effectively crippling it. This is yet another frustrating anti-pattern they introduce and it personally upsets me that 5 decades of established paradigms (CTRL-C is CTRL-C!) continue to be thrown out of the window ju...

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Should HN add a "Show AI" prefix for AI-related or AI-assisted projects?

Ask HN: Should HN add a "Show AI" prefix for AI-related or AI-assisted projects? 2 by wslh | 4 comments on Hacker News. Would a “Show AI” prefix help people find projects built with or assisted by AI? Or would it add noise? Curious what others think.

New ask Hacker News story: Biggest pet peeve of FPGA toolchains

Biggest pet peeve of FPGA toolchains 2 by vWijdaan | 0 comments on Hacker News. I’m interested - what’s everyone’s most hated features of AMD/Intel FPGA toolchains? I was having a discussion with my colleagues, for us it’s the overcrowded UI. So many cluttered buttons and features, half of which we never use… We were debating about what the most hated features would be in the wider FPGA community. Tell me your thoughts!

Ask HN: How does your help desk verify someone before resetting MFA? 3 by ovudus | 0 comments on Hacker News. Seeing more breaches start with a convincing call to the help desk. Curious what actually works for remote staff and contractors, where nobody can vouch for the caller.

New ask Hacker News story: AMA – "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", milestone in CGI, is 25 years old

AMA – "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", milestone in CGI, is 25 years old 4 by kaveh808 | 2 comments on Hacker News. It might be fun to reflect on the creation of [0] 25 years ago. The project was the first attempt at producing and entire feature film with "photorealistic" human characters using CG. I was R&D lead on the project, and it has been fun to see how the technology has evolved over the years. Happy to do my best to answer any questions people may have. [0] https://ift.tt/F1htg2q

New ask Hacker News story: Tell HN: 2x PHP RCE CVEs with CVSS 10.0 Incoming

Tell HN: 2x PHP RCE CVEs with CVSS 10.0 Incoming 196 by petecooper | 30 comments on Hacker News. A reliable source has indicated an announcement is scheduled for 22 October 2026 at 18:00 CEST regarding 2x PHP RCEs with a CVSS score of 10.0. I have no evidence beyond "source: trust me, bro", but if you're running PHP in production, be ready to update as a priority. These CVEs reportedly relate to remote code execution in all affected PHP versions from PHP 5 onwards. These are the two reserved CVEs for the reported upcoming announcement: CVE-2026-109618 CVE-2026-109619

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Is Wikipedia going to be obsolete soon?

Ask HN: Is Wikipedia going to be obsolete soon? 2 by piratesAndSons | 2 comments on Hacker News. Recently they began showing a download-our-app ad at the top of the site, and it made me wonder: is the website going away soon? Wikipedia was a fixture of the Web 2.0 era, but now websites are changing. Chatbots are taking massive traffic from websites. Young people don’t like reading text; they prefer watching videos and listening to podcasts. Websites are seen as the old way of doing things, which is why Wikipedia has begun building its own app, since Gen Z is trending this way.

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Bring-your-own-AI hardware

Ask HN: Bring-your-own-AI hardware 2 by flying_sheep | 0 comments on Hacker News. Wondering if you guys find any interesting bring-your-own AI hardware. Due to recent development in AI, people can easily develop their own "brain" for any hardware. I am curious to find out those hardware that are sold without software, or can be easily modify.
