I was backing up my data on a newly bought seagate harddisk and after putting the macbook to sleep the harddisk wouldn't mount anymore. Disk Utility said to run "First Aid" but it would just return a 0 error. Booting up windows saved the date, the OS mentioned straightforward that the disk is damaged and needs repair. It repaired it.
